Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia (BI) has provided Rp 133.7 trillion in cash to meet public demand during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holiday period.
As of now, Rp 52.5 trillion, or around 39.3% of the total, has been withdrawn by banks.
BI Deputy Governor Doni P. Joewono said that the currency has been distributed across regions, with 54% in Java, 21% in Sumatra, 12% in Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, 9% in Kalimantan, and 4% in Bali and Nusa Tenggara.
"We are ensuring ATM services remain available during the long holiday period," he added, as reported by antaranews.com.
In addition to cash distribution, BI has launched the “Serunai” program (Festive Rupiah for a Peaceful Christmas) for money exchange, running from 15 to 20 December 2024, with a maximum limit of Rp 4 million per person.
BI has also deployed mobile cash services to high-priority areas, including Jakarta, North Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, and West Papua. Nearly Rp 186.4 billion has been exchanged through this program.
