Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police have identified 30 suspects allegedly involved in a clash between local residents and construction workers in Kebon Kacang, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday that resulted in the death of a construction worker.
"We are identifying the suspects and processing the crime scene. We’ve also gathered statements from witnesses," said Tanah Abang Police Office Chief Superintendent Aditya Sembiring on Wednesday (18/12/2024).
The police have questioned 10 witnesses, including five construction workers and five local residents. They have also collected CCTV footage from three locations near the site and are seeking additional footage to build a clearer picture of the incident.
The clash occurred at approximately 4.30 pm local time when around 30 residents reportedly confronted workers clearing land owned by a private company. The altercation escalated, leading to the death of an excavator operator identified as AS (71). He succumbed to injuries from a sharp weapon en route to Pelni Hospital.
Chief Aditya clarified that the clash was not related to a land dispute, as ownership had been established.
Security has been intensified at the site with 30 officers to prevent further escalation.
