Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Banten Regional Police issued a warning on Wednesday (6/12/23) to coastal residents in the Sunda Strait, urging heightened vigilance in anticipation of a potential eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) reported two recent eruptions of the volcano. The first eruption occurred at 12 am, reaching an ash column height of approximately 1,000 meters above the summit or about 1,157 meters above sea level.
The second eruption occurred at 9.54 am with an ash column height of approximately 500 meters above the summit or about 657 meters above sea level.
Visual and instrumental observations have escalated Mount Anak Krakatau to Level III (Alert), signifying an increased likelihood of a volcanic eruption.
"Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau is at Level III alert. We strongly advise coastal residents, especially fishermen, to avoid approaching the mountain within a five-kilometer radius," he emphasized.
