Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that its sting operation in Banten originated from allegations that a South Korean citizen was extorted by a prosecutor during a criminal trial process.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said on Friday (19/12/2025) that the foreigner was allegedly threatened with heavier charges, detention, and other legal pressure.
“One of the parties was a South Korean citizen who became a victim of alleged extortion by a law enforcement officer,” he confirmed, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The case prompted KPK to arrest a prosecutor, two lawyers, a translator, and several private individuals during operations on 17 and 18 December 2025 in Banten and Jakarta. Investigators seized nearly Rp 900 million in cash.
Responding to the case, the Attorney General’s Office spokesperson Anang Supriatna confirmed it has taken over the prosecution. Its spokesperson said five suspects, including three prosecutors, have been formally named and detained, stressing that the institution will not protect any official involved in corruption.
