Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Kusworo, the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), has instructed his subordinates nationwide to utilize unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, to their full potential during operational duties.
"I am giving this order to all Heads of SAR Offices across Indonesia to implement it effectively and maximally," he said on Monday (5/2/2024). Each SAR office across Indonesia possesses four types of drone devicesare equipped with sonar technology to detect body heat, significantly enhancing the speed, accuracy, and precision of operations, Chief Kusworo said. The latest drone operated by Basarnas is the "drone fixed wing vtol" (Vertical Take-Off and Landing), specifically designed for observation missions before SAR operations are initiated. He cited examples such as the pre-operation search for flood victims in Lake Toba's waters and the search for missing climbers during the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra. "The key is to find missing victims quickly, thereby increasing the likelihood of their survival," Chief Kusworo said. He said that Basarnas has coordinated with the government and the House of Representatives to equip additional high-tech equipment, supporting the smooth execution of humanitarian missions carried out by Basarnas. Previously, Basarnas submitted a proposal for the procurement of five types of advanced technological equipment within the budgetary requirements for the 2024 spending plan, totaling Rp 3.6 billion, to the House of Representatives Commission V. The equipment includes SAR Drones, Long Range Radar SAR, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and Handles Sonar. "We continue to enhance personnel capabilities through mentoring and collaboration with high-level SAR organizations, such as the United States," Chief Kusworo said. (mg/ndt/pr/nm)
