Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is investigating allegations that stainless-steel food trays imported from Chaoshan, China, for the government’s Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program may contain hazardous substances, including lard.

“We are currently conducting a thorough check and recheck,” BGN Head Dadan Hindayana said in a statement on Tuesday (26/8/2025), stressing that the agency has never procured trays for MBG.

The probe followed a report by Indonesia Business Post, which uncovered 30–40 factories in Chaoshan allegedly producing trays for Indonesia, the most populous muslim country in the world. The investigation claimed evidence of forged “Made in Indonesia” and SNI labels, trays unsuitable for acidic food due to high manganese content, and possible use of pork oil in production.

Meanwhile, the National Standardization Agency (BSN) has issued SNI 9369:2025 to regulate stainless-steel trays for MBG, ensuring safety, quality, and durability while encouraging local industry participation.
