Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) predicts that the peak of the 2024/2025 rainy season will occur from November 2024 through February 2025.
BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati said on Sunday (24/11/2024) that the peak rainy season will vary across different regions of Indonesia.
"From November to December 2024, several areas are expected to experience their peak rainy season," she explained, as reported by antaranews.com.
These areas include parts of Sumatra, the southern coast of Java, and Kalimantan.
From January to February 2025, the rainy season's peak is anticipated in regions such as Lampung, northern Java, parts of Sulawesi, Bali, NTB, NTT, and most of Papua.
BMKG's climatology deputy, Ardhasena, also noted that the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) index shows a weak La Niña trend, while the Indian Ocean Dipole is moving towards a neutral condition. These factors could influence weather patterns, with warmer-than-usual sea surface temperatures potentially contributing to wet weather into early 2025.
BMKG also reported two tropical cyclone disturbances in the Indian Ocean, which could affect weather conditions and coastal areas in western Indonesia.
