Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, erupted again on Sunday (24/11/2024) at 9.56 am local time, sending a volcanic ash column approximately 1,000 meters above its peak.

The eruption produced a grey, thick ash plume drifting westward, as observed by the Geological Agency’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) monitoring team in Ile Gerong village.

PVMBG has warned residents to avoid any activities within a 7-kilometer radius of the crater.

Local authorities have been advising residents to steer clear of the southwest to northwest sectors, up to 8 kilometers from the volcano, and to remain vigilant for potential rain-triggered lahars in rivers originating at the mountain.

"PVMBG is working closely with local disaster management agencies to update information and ensure public safety. We urge residents to follow official recommendations," said Heronimus Lamawuran, the Head of East Flores Communications Office, as quoted by antaranews.com..

Since the initial eruption on 4 November 2024, the disaster has affected 13,240 people, with over 5,600 staying in shelters and 7,300 evacuating independently. Nine fatalities have been reported.
