inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Head of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati says her party has installed tsunami detector in the Banten Sea and Sunda Strait.

In her statement, she says that the installation of seismographs and accelerographs to provide early warning of megathrust earthquakes that have the potential to cause large tsunamis.

However, she notes that her party still cannot predict accurately when the megathrust will happen, although they can predict the potential area affected by the disaster.

BMKG had just recently been able to detect tsunami due to earthquakes through the installment of the tsunami detector.

“We are sorry that we still cannot predict as the predictability rate is still low. However, we are still trying to predict despite the low predictability rate,” apologized Dwikorita.

At the end of her statement, Dwikorita adds that BMKG has installed 39 seismographs in Banten Sea and Sunda Straits, including 20 accelerographs, and 22 automatic water level monitoring devices were installed.
