Inp.polri.go.id - Beijing. China has raised its stance on the new Indonesia–US trade tariff agreement, calling for equitable dialogue in resolving global economic disputes.
“Our position remains clear: parties should resolve economic and trade disagreements through equal-footed dialogue and consultation,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday (16/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The agreement allows the US to impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian imports—down from the previous 32%—while Indonesia waives tariffs on all American goods. This deal followed a phone call between President Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump.
China urged nations to “jointly foster a favorable environment for global economic and trade cooperation,” Lin added.
President Trump, via Trump Social, warned that goods from third countries routed through Indonesia may incur additional tariffs. The agreement also includes Indonesia’s commitment to purchase $15 billion in US energy, $4.5 billion in agricultural goods, and 50 Boeing aircraft.
