Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. China-based Huayou has stepped in to replace South Korea’s LG Energy Solution in a major electric vehicle (EV) supply chain project in Indonesia, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
“LG has been replaced by a strategic partner from China, Huayou, alongside our state-owned enterprises,” he told reporters Wednesday (23/4/2025).
The minister raised his confidence that the EV downstreaming project under the Indonesia Grand Package will continue as planned, despite LG’s partial withdrawal. He emphasized that such shifts are common in large-scale investments and that the government remains committed to ensuring project continuity.
Originally launched with LG in 2020, the Indonesia Grand Package aims to build a full EV battery supply chain. While LG has exited parts of the initiative, the first EV battery plant—built with Hyundai—has already begun operations in Karawang, West Java.
