Chinese Man Charged with Selling Fake Smartphones

The Denpasar Immigration Office in Bali has referred a Chinese national to the Denpasar Prosecutors' Office for prosecution for misusing his tourist visa for selling smartphones, antaranews.com reported. "We have decided to refer the case to the general criminal court," Denpasar Immigration chief Tedy Riyandi said on Friday (3/11/2023). The man, identified as Chen Yutong, has been detained upon the completion of his case and charged under Article 122 a of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration. This charge carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and a fine of up to IDR 500 million, according to antaranews.com. The 50-year-old man was arrested in Jakarta on 25 August  2023 following a report from an employee of a mobile phone shop in Denpasar. According to immigration data, Chen entered Indonesia on 8 April 2023 on a tourist visa via Soekarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta. His permit expired on 8 August 2023. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
