Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Vice Head of Commission III of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Ahmad Sahroni asked the Indonesian National Police (INP) to help and guarantee the health and safety of 2024 Election Organizing Committee (KPPS) officers. Sahroni says that there are no electoral contests that are worth more than a human live, which is why police has to act optimally in securing the election process. “Inform all KPPS members that they can contact the police if they need emergency medical treatment,” said Sahroni on Friday (2/16/2024). On the other hand, regional polices have to monitor their respective provinces and ensure their sub-regional polices to sectoral polices act responsively to the situation on the field, including health issues. “We also have to make sure that the call center are working for 24 hours,” continued Sahroni. Following his statement regarding KPPS health issues, Sahroni took East Java Regional Police as the best example in handling the issue. The East Java Regional Police, said Sahroni, has deployed more than 1,000 medical teams for KPPS members to security officers from the military, police, and even community organizations. According to Sahroni, the anticipatory measure is a proper and excellent take considering how demanding the work of KPPS is. “This is a good anticipatory measure although the General Election Commission has already screened members' health as best as possible. However, the fact remains that there are still many KPPS members who have fallen ill, even died, due to their demanding work,” said Sahroni. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
