Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Margriet Christina Megawe, convicted of the 2015 murder of eight-year-old Angeline in Bali, has died from chronic kidney failure.

“She passed away in the hospital, and her remains have been handed over to her family,” said Ni Luh Putu Andiyani, the Head of the Women’s Kerobokan Correctional Facility, on Saturday (7/12/2024).

Margriet had been undergoing dialysis twice a week since July 2024 under the supervision of prison staff, antaranews.com reported.

The prison’s medical officer, Dr. Ida Ayu Sri Indra Laksmi, confirmed that Margriet received regular health checkups during her incarceration. The facility ensured proper funeral procedures and coordinated with her family for the arrangements.

Margriet was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2016 for the premeditated murder of her adopted daughter, Angeline. The case shocked the nation after Angeline, initially reported missing, was found buried in Margriet’s backyard, tied with a rope and clutching a doll.

A domestic worker, Agustay Hamdamay, was also sentenced to 10 years for assisting in concealing the body. The tragic case remains one of Indonesia’s most infamous child abuse incidents.
