Inp.polri.go.id - Depok. Deputy Minister of Law Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej on Tuesday (29/7/2025) asserted that the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RUU KUHAP) will not hinder the country’s anti-corruption efforts, despite concerns raised by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“This draft remains dynamic. It does not specifically regulate KPK or the National Narcotics Agency but instead sets general provisions. However, several exceptions for KPK remain, especially regarding procedural authority,” he said during a press conference in Depok, West Java, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He explained that oversight provisions, such as police coordination for investigations, do not apply to KPK, the Attorney General’s Office, or the military. Forced efforts like arrest and detention, often flagged as problematic, also exclude KPK from police approval.
KPK had warned that the bill could weaken its mandate. It has since engaged legal experts and the Ministry of Law to review the bill's alignment with existing anti-graft laws.
