Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian sovereign wealth fund Danantara has officially acquired several hospitality and real estate assets in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, marking its entry into the city’s hotel sector to support Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. 

The acquisition was signed on Sunday (14/12/2025)  through Danantara Investment Management with Thakher Development Company for assets located in Thakher City, about 2.5 kilometers from the Grand Mosque.

“This agreement is an important first step to secure strategic assets that can enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims,” said Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The deal covers the operational Novotel Makkah Thakher City with 1,461 rooms and 14 land plots totaling around 4.4 hectares for future development. 

Danantara plans a phased, regulator-approved development that may add up to 5,000 hotel rooms, supported by local partners. The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s long-term investment strategy and coordination with Saudi authorities to ensure governance, compliance, and sustainable public value.
