Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has elevated Dieng volcanic complex status in Central Java from Level I (Normal) to Level II (Alert) as of Thursday at 6 pm.
Dieng volcanic complex in Dieng plateau consists of a number of calderas.
The decision followed significant volcanic activity, including a phreatic eruption at Sileri Crater on 18 December 2024, recorded with a seismic duration of 200 seconds and a maximum amplitude of 42.7 mm.
“Visitors should avoid the 500-meter radius around Sileri Crater and refrain from camping nearby,” said Geological Agency Head Muhammad Wafid on Friday (20/12/2024).
Other craters, including Timbang, Siglagah, and Pagerkandang, are also potential hazards for sudden phreatic eruptions, especially during the rainy season, according to antaranews.com.
Wafid warned of high toxic gas concentrations in Sikidang and Sinila Craters, urging residents to adhere to safety guidelines and avoid spreading misinformation.
Local administrations in Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, and Batang are working closely with the Geological Agency to monitor the situation.
