Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The East Java Regional Police strengthened the readiness of its officers and tactical equipment to anticipate forest and land fires by holding an inspection assembly at its headquarters in Surabaya on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
"East Java holds a high risk for forest and land fires due to vast teak and pine forest areas that become highly flammable during the dry season," said East Java Police Samapta Director Senior Superintendent Noerwiyanto.
Police highlighted several high-risk areas, including Probolinggo, Situbondo, Lumajang, Malang, Trenggalek, Ponorogo, Kediri, Bojonegoro, and Gresik, alongside ongoing suppression efforts in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS). Authorities emphasized that fires stem from extreme weather as well as human activities, such as clearing land through open burning, according to antaranews.com.
Chief Noerwiyanto instructed officers to leverage hotspot monitoring technology, intensify joint patrols with local emergency services, and prioritize responder safety when operating in hazardous terrain.
