inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area has caught the attention of the public following the finding of dozens of marijuana fields covering an area of 1.5 hectares by the East Java Regional Police on Wednesday (9/25/2024).
East Java Regional Police personnel managed to arrest four suspects and confiscated more than 30 thousand marijuana plants.
The East Java Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate, together with the Lumajang Sub-regional Police said that a large marijuana field had been found in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area.
Director of Drug Criminal Investigation of East Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Robert Da Costa, said that the police have also arrested four suspects who own marijuana plantations, all of whom are residents of Argosari Village, Lumajang. In addition to the four suspects, the police are continuing to pursue the mastermind behind the marijuana cultivation in TNBTS.
"They have been planting marijuana since January 2024, from January to September. Some plants were harvested and some were not," said Robert Da Costa.
From the results of the field search, the police have found more than 38 thousand marijuana plants in 49 marijuana fields. In addition to marijuana plants, the police also confiscated dried marijuana and ready-to-plant marijuana seeds hidden in the bushes. Now the police continue to trace a number of locations, which are suspected of still containing marijuana plants.
