Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Environment confirmed Monday (6/10/2025) that two contaminated sites in the Modern Cikande Industrial Estate, Banten, have undergone decontamination following the detection of radioactive Cesium-137 (Cs-137).
“We have completed decontamination at sites A and F and are expanding to other identified areas,” said Rasio Ridho Sani, the Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, who also leads mitigation under the national radiation contamination task force, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He said that ten contaminated zones have been identified so far. The joint task force, guided by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten), has removed 20 drums, 17 jumbo bags, and three pallets of radioactive waste, transferring them to interim storage at PT Peter Metal Technology (PMT).
The company remains sealed as the suspected source of the contamination, initially detected in frozen shrimp exported to the U.S. The Health Ministry has screened 1,562 nearby workers, providing treatment for those exposed.
