Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) marked the 77th anniversary of the Indonesian National Police’s women officers, known as Polwan, by stressing their crucial role in protecting victims of gender-based violence.
“The presence of female police officers is important to prove that law enforcement can work with a humanitarian perspective, especially for victims of gender-based violence,” Komnas Perempuan member Sundari Waris said on Monday (1/9/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Komnas Perempuan praised Polwan for more than seven decades of service, describing them as frontline protectors for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Other Komnas Perempuan member, RR Sri Agustini, emphasized the need for women officers in leadership roles, particularly in tackling domestic violence, trafficking, cybercrime, online harassment, and sexual violence cases.
She added that despite progress, female officers still face structural, cultural, and legal barriers that limit their leadership opportunities and advocacy for victims. Komnas Prempuan urged the state to strengthen their role beyond symbolic representation.
