Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said investigations into violent protests, marked by arson and looting, will proceed strictly on the basis of evidence.
His remarks came after questions over whether oil and gas businessman Riza Chalid was linked to funding or organizing the unrest. The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has named him in its wanted list in relations to a corruption case.
“Of course, the police will move according to evidence on the ground. From the facts we gather, we will identify the perpetrators, the masterminds, and those who financed it — all will be traced,” Chief Sigit told reporters
He confirmed several suspected rioters had been arrested, though official figures were still being finalized.
President Prabowo Subianto called the violence “planned” and labeled the torching of the South Sulawesi legislative council (DPRD) building an act of treason. He pledged continued resolve against what he described as “mafias” attempting to destabilize Indonesia.
