Inp.polri.go.id - Yeosu, South Korea. A 139-ton fishing trawler with 14 crew members sank off South Korea’s southern coast early Sunday (9/2/2025), leaving four dead and six missing, including one Indonesian.
The vessel, carrying eight South Koreans, three Vietnamese, and three Indonesians, was reported missing at 1.41 am local time, 17 km east of Habaek Island, near Yeosu.
So far, eight crew members have been rescued, but four South Koreans, including the captain, were found dead. Two Indonesians and two Vietnamese were among the survivors, according to antaranews.com.
A survivor said that the vessel capsized suddenly after tilting left. Authorities are investigating the cause.
The ship, which departed from Busan’s Gamcheon Port, was part of a fleet of four vessels but sent no distress signal.
A massive rescue operation involving 24 patrol boats, 4 navy vessels, and 13 aircraft is underway. During the search, a coast guard boat capsized, but all six crew survived.
