Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has confirmed that the recent food poisoning incident at SMPN 8 Junior High School in Kupang was not caused by the government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.
The findings followed an investigation by the National Food and Drug Agency (BPOM) at the local Nutrition Service Unit kitchen (SPPG).
"MBG distribution to the school had already been suspended on 22 July 2025, so the new cases could not have originated from MBG meals," said BGN Head Dadan Hindayana in Jakarta on Wednesday (30/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He added that MBG samples are preserved for three days for safety testing and no contamination was found. BGN has since reinforced its standard operating procedures to ensure meals reach students within 30 minutes of preparation.
Previously, over 140 students from SMPN 8 Kupang were hospitalized with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
