Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. In a display of international oversight, foreign observers closely monitored on Wednesday (14/2/2024) the election proceedings at a polling station in Jimbaran Village, Bali, which was operated entirely by a team of women.
This monitoring initiative fell under the General Elections Commission's (KPU) Election Visit Programme, antaranews.com reported.
Zahir Hassan, a Malaysian Parliament member partaking in the observer group, praised the conduct of the elections in Bali, particularly highlighting the significant participation of women at the polling station.
"The election process here has been commendable, and it's encouraging to see such active involvement of women," he remarked, emphasizing the importance of transparent conduct facilitated by the presence of candidates' representatives as witnesses.
Hassan expressed surprise at the complexity of the Indonesian voting process, noting that voters received five different ballot papers to cast their votes for various positions, a stark contrast to the simpler process in Malaysia.
Suprihatini, the deputy for parliamentary proceedings at the House of Representatives Secretariat General, revealed that a group of 11 representatives from international organizations visited the polling station.
Other observer groups monitored election proceedings at a polling station in Ungasan Village and a polling station in Penglipuran Village. In total, 33 observers from 17 countries and international parliamentary organizations participated in observing the elections in Bali.
