Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Attorney General’s Office has issued a six-month travel ban on former Education Minister Nadiem Makarim, effective from 19 June 2025, amid an ongoing corruption investigation.

“Nadiem Makarim is prohibited from leaving the country to ensure smooth progress of the investigation,” said AGO spokesperson Harli Siregar on Friday (27/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The probe centers on alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops by the Ministry of Education and Culture during 2019–2022. Nadiem, who served as minister during that period, appeared for questioning on June 23 as a witness.

The AGO suspects a conspiracy to manipulate technical assessments to justify the use of Chrome OS, despite earlier internal tests in 2019 showing Chromebooks were ineffective for educational needs. Initially, experts had recommended devices with Windows OS.

Harli revealed the procurement cost reached Rp 9.98 trillion (approx. USD 600 million), with funds drawn from education unit budgets and special allocation funds.

The AGO has not ruled out further questioning.
