Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Fransiskus Xaverius Seda Airport in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara has resumed operations after being closed since July 17, 2024, due to safety concerns related to volcanic ash of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.
“The airport is now open following a thorough safety assessment,” said Partahian Panjaitan, the Head of the Airport Operations Unit, in a statement on Tuesday (3/12/2024).
The reopening was officially announced on Sunday, through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) confirming the airspace is clear of volcanic ash. Evaluations of ASHTAM notices, SIGMET reports, and volcanic ash dispersion maps, along with meteorological forecasts, showed safe wind conditions in the region.
Wings Air and Nam Air have reopened ticket sales, with flights set to resume on 16 December 2024. Wings Air will serve the Maumere–Kupang and Labuan Bajo–Maumere routes, while Nam Air will operate flights between Kupang and Maumere.
“The reopening is a timely gift for Christmas, allowing travelers to reunite with their families,” said Partahian, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He assured that the airport continues to coordinate with weather services, AirNav Indonesia, and airlines to ensure safe and smooth operations.
