inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto urged all Indonesian universities to create various innovations and breakthroughs to address the country's waste problem.
This was conveyed during a direct inspection of technology-based waste management facilities developed by Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
During his visits to the two universities, Brian held direct dialogue with the universities' technical teams regarding technological aspects, operations, costs, and environmental standards.
"What we are pushing for is how the technology can meet environmental standards and be tested openly," said Brian on Monday (2/9/2026).
He assessed that system readiness needs to be continuously refined so that thermal and plasma-based waste processing technologies can be implemented safely, efficiently, and replicated in various regions.
Brian emphasized that universities have a strategic position as centers for research, testing, and technology development, including ensuring emissions management, energy efficiency, and environmental safety.
He encouraged collaboration between universities and local governments so that campus-based waste processing technologies can be implemented according to regional needs.
This is considered more effective as it reduces the logistical burden of waste transportation, lowers long-term costs, and opens up space for domestic technological innovation.
