inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has asked his staff to mobilize places of worship, especially mosques along the homecoming route, to become humanitarian oases that provide comfort to everyone, regardless of background.
"There are approximately 6,000 mosques throughout Indonesia urged to open on certain days, whether national or religious homecoming days," said the Minister of Religious Affairs on Monday (2/9/2026).
Minister Nasaruddin stated that Ramadan should be a momentum to boost the faith while improving the empathy and social solidarity across all elements of society.
He even encouraged mosque administrators to not only open the place for worship or rest but also to provide iftar meals for those who stay away.
"In fact, if necessary, during the upcoming Eid homecoming, mosque administrators should not only open their doors but also provide iftar meals for congregants who may stop by," suggests Nasaruddin.
He emphasized that the essence of religion is loving one's neighbor. The principle of universal humanity is the foundation for providing social assistance, especially during the holy month.
He also called on religious communities to respect public spaces, including urging shopping center owners to properly accommodate worship needs and create a calm atmosphere for those fasting.
"I implore religious leaders to promote positive things. Use religion as a motivation to love others, even those of different faiths. That is what a truly religious person is," said the Minister of Religious Affairs.
