Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s national rice harvest is expected to begin earlier in February 2026, prompting the government to prepare up to 4 million tons of rice reserves to safeguard food supply and price stability, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan said on Monday (12/1/2026).
“Previously the peak harvest started in March, but this year it will begin in February and continue through April, with production projected to rise by five to ten percent,” he told reporters after a limited food coordination meeting in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com
The earlier harvest has led the government to strengthen the Government Rice Reserve, planned to be maintained at 4 million tons through 2029. To support absorption, authorities will expand storage capacity by constructing around 100 new Bulog warehouses with assistance from the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
Village and sub-district cooperatives will also be integrated into storage and distribution networks, supporting farmers and local supply chains. The policy aims to reinforce national food security ahead of peak production.
