inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed that the recovery of post-disaster healthcare services in Sumatra has been significant. Within the first month since the disaster, all affected hospitals had resumed operations.
"Thank God, within the first month since the disaster, all 87 hospitals have been able to resume. Some are running with limited facilities, but still, they all are ready to serve the public," said the Minister of Health in a press statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (1/13/2026).
Minister Budi explained that recovery is also being carried out at the primary healthcare level. Of the 867 community health centers (Puskesmas) affected, only nine were unable to operate until the end of the year.
Of the three community health centers, two must be rebuilt due to heavy damage. Going forward, the Ministry of Health will directly inspect the locations of severely damaged community health centers, particularly in the Aceh region.
"We've spoken with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, and construction will begin this week, as the locations have been determined. I plan to visit Aceh to see the locations of the completely destroyed community health centers. We're building a total of around 200 community health centers," he explained.
