inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid, famously called HNW, hopes that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will invite more countries to support Palestinian independence after discussing it with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to him, Prabowo and Macron's stance on Palestine coincides with the momentum of more and more countries rejecting Israel's genocide of Gaza and recognizing Palestine as an independent country, such as Spain, Norway, Ireland, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Chile, and Bolivia.
"Recently, France took the initiative together with England and Canada to announce the recognition of Palestine as an independent country," said HNW in Jakarta, Thursday (5/29/2025).
HNW adds that Prabowo and Macron's statement on Palestinian independence must be supported as it is in line with the mandate of the Indonesian 1945 Constitution opening which has been the official stance of Indonesia since the day of its independence.
According to him, France's move to make a joint communique with Saudi Arabia in June to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign country will bring solidarity of countries towards Palestine.
HNW also encouraged President Prabowo to focus more on prioritizing the struggle for Palestinian independence which is recognized by the absolute majority of world countries or UN members rather than opening up the possibility of diplomatic relations with Israel.
He said that the public does not want President Prabowo Subianto to be fooled by Israel like the Arab countries. Arab countries had normalized relations with Israel to support Palestinian independence, but Israel instead increasingly legitimized its colonization.
"For example, today Israel declares support for Palestine as an independent country which then prompted President Prabowo to declare recognition of Israel and open diplomatic relations, but the next day Israel reneges their promises by attacking and colonizing the Palestinians again," said HNW.
