Inp.polri.go.id - Bali. The I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Sub-Regional Police have uncovered a case of human trafficking crimes (TPPO) involving four victims who were about to depart to Hong Kong. Among the victims, three individuals hail from Banyumas, while one comes from Banjarnegara.

Police Superintendent Ida Ayu Wikarniti, the Chief of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Sub-Regional Police, elaborated on the matter, revealing that the four victims intended to embark on their journey overseas using tourist passports bound for Bangkok. From there, they would then proceed to Cambodia for work.

During a press conference held on Thursday (June 15, 2023), she stated the police commitment to conducting a thorough investigation, citing the potential presence of additional victims beyond the currently identified four individuals, "We will further investigate as there is a possibility that there are more than just these four victims."

She provided details that two suspects originating from Jakarta have been identified in connection with the case. They adopted a modus operandi centered around exploiting Facebook to offer deceptive opportunities and arranged meetings in Bali with the intention of facilitating the victims' departure to Hong Kong, ultimately leading them to Cambodia.

The suspects are charged under Article 69 in conjunction with Article 81 of the Indonesian Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to IDR 15,000,000,000. Additionally, they are charged under Article 2 paragraph 1 and/or Article 10, Article 11 of the Indonesian Law No. 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of Human Trafficking, which carries a minimum prison sentence of 3 years and a maximum of 15 years, as well as a fine ranging from at least IDR 120,000,000 to a maximum of IDR 600,000,000.
