"As of 7:00 a.m. this morning, we have successfully apprehended 10 of the escaped inmates," said Samarinda Sub-regional City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Hendri Umar, Monday (10/20/2025).

He explained that the successful arrests were the result of the hard work of a joint team supported by prompt information from the public and volunteers.

Police officers are currently conducting an intensive pursuit of the five remaining inmates who are still at large. The inmates are known to have escaped on Sunday (10/19/2025) afternoon by breaking through the wall in the toilet area of ​​their cell.

Following the incident, a joint team from the Samarinda Sub-regional City Police and the East Kalimantan Regional Police was immediately deployed to conduct searches at various strategic locations.

Police efforts yielded results in less than 24 hours, with the arrest of 10 inmates in several separate locations in the Samarinda area.

The police urged the fugitives to surrender immediately and asked anyone with information to report the incident to the emergency number 110.

Based on preliminary investigations, the police have identified the detainee suspected of masterminding the mass escape.

The captured detainees have been transferred to the Samarinda City Sector Police detention cell due to damaged facilities.
