Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government confirmed that cloves contaminated with radioactive Cesium-137 (Cs-137) originated from Lampung, according to the Cesium-137 Radiation Risk Task Force.

“We can confirm that contamination was found in a plantation in Lampung,” said Bara Krishna Hasibuan, a Senior Advisor at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs and Head of the Task Force’s Diplomacy and Communication Division, during a press conference on Monday (13/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

He said the contamination was limited in scope and had not spread to other areas or commodities. As a precaution, the task force and the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) have recommended a temporary halt on the sale of affected cloves until further laboratory tests are completed.

The confirmation follows a U.S. FDA report detecting Cs-137 in Indonesian clove exports from PT NJS. The Indonesian government emphasized that the restriction only applies to certain shipments from Java and Lampung, not all exports to the U.S.
