Indonesia Confirms Release of Citizens from Gaza Flotilla

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono confirmed on Thursday (21/5/2026) that all nine Indonesian citizens detained by the Israeli military during a humanitarian mission to the Gaza Strip have been released and are currently on their way back to Indonesia.

"The nine Indonesian citizens captured by the Israeli military during the interception of vessels and arrest of volunteers with the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 are now on their way out of Israel, heading to Istanbul, Turkey," he announced via an official statement in Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.

The release of the humanitarian volunteers and national journalists involved coordination by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Indonesian diplomatic networks, including embassies in Ankara, Cairo, Rome, Amman, and the Consulate General in Istanbul, worked together to manage the crisis. 

Minister Sugiono expressed gratitude to the Turkish government for its support in facilitating the evacuation, as well as to President Prabowo Subianto, the House of Representatives), and the Indonesian public for their solidarity.
