Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. President Joko Widodo says Indonesia has more than 4,400 rivers from Sabang to Merauke, which presents huge potentials for Indonesian hydroelectric power plant.
“Regarding hydro potentials, Indonesia has more than 4,400 potential rivers which 128 of them are huge rivers, such as Mamberamo River in Papua who could provide up to 24,000 megawatts. There is also Kayan River who could provide up to 13,000 megawatts in North Kalimantan which could power the Green Industrial Park,” says President Jokowi on Tuesday (10/31/2023).
However, Indonesia has several issues to face such as the hydropower source location which is far from the electricity demand center.
In tackling the issue, government has made a blue print for the transmission path acceleration which will connect electric from economic and industrial growth center. This will bring huge benefits for the two locations.
“Other challenges are funds and technology shifting, where this requires big investment and collaboration the entire power of the hydro ecosystem in the world," says Jokowi.
Jokowi hopes the ongoing World Hydropower Congress could be the collaboration forum which will present policy suggestion and improving investment for the utilization of water energy for a sustainable green economy.
This is important for the world is suffering from conflict and climate changes.
“Our world is ill. The UN has stated that it is not global warming anymore, but it is global boiling,” conclude Jokowi.
