inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated that carbon investment by the private sector, including from abroad, such as Japan, is very open in Indonesia, including through afforestation and reforestation activities in national park areas.
"This opportunity is further enhanced by the issuance of the national policy regarding the Economic Value of Carbon through Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of the Economic Value of Carbon (NEK) and National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Control, which allows for a more structured and credible implementation of the Voluntary Carbon Market," said Minister Raja Antoni in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (3/31/2026).
He further stated that Indonesia's invitation to Japan to participate in carbon investment aligns with the bilateral meeting between the two countries in Japan today.
Minister Raja Antoni met with Japanese Environment Minister Ishihara Hirotaka in Tokyo to discuss strengthening Indonesia-Japan strategic cooperation in forestry, conservation, and climate change mitigation.
"Through this meeting, Indonesia and Japan affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening collaboration in the forestry sector, while also encouraging innovative, nature-based solutions to address the challenges of global climate change," said the Minister of Forestry.
During the meeting, Japanese Minister of Environment Ishihara expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian government, particularly the Ministry of Forestry, for the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Shizuoka Prefecture regarding wildlife protection and conservation.
The collaboration focuses on the Komodo dragon breeding loan program as part of efforts to sustainably conserve this iconic Indonesian species.
Furthermore, the Japanese government also appreciated the visit of the Indonesian delegation to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park as part of the exchange of experiences in managing national parks to international standards.
