Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi held a meeting with with Malaysian Minister of Transportation Loke Siew Fook on Tuesday (21/2/23) to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector.
“The bilateral cooperation between the two countries has been well established. We both committed to continue improving our cooperation in the transportation sector post COVID-19 pandemic,” said the Indonesian Minister as quoted by rri.com.
Several key issues on the discussion table included the plan to open ferry service between Dumai in Indonesia and Malacca in Malaysia.
The plan was first discussed during a joint visit to the Sri Junjungan port in Dumai and the Tanjung Bruas port in Malacca in October 2022. Both sea ports, currently undergoing development to support international standard ferry operations, are expected to commence in 2026.
“The follow-up plan for the Dumai-Malacca ferry service is a priority for both countries as it will support the sub-regional IMT-GT connectivity,” he said, referring to the Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand-Growth Triangle.
He expressed his appreciation for Malaysia's support of Indonesia's bid to become a member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the 2024-2025 period.
In his closing remarks, he raised his expectation that Malaysia would continue to support the implementation of the Realignment Flight Information Region agreement between Indonesia and Singapore, which was signed in 2022.
