Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has reaffirmed that all American products entering the Indonesian market must strictly adhere to national halal certification regulations.
BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said on Monday that Law No. 33/2014 remains the primary legal foundation, requiring mandatory halal labeling for all relevant goods circulating within the country.
"Reciprocal cooperation agreements with the US do not waive the halal requirement. Every mandatory product must carry a halal certificate and label as per Indonesian law," Haikal said, as cited by antaranews.com.
To streamline this process, BPJPH utilizes Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) with five recognized US-based Halal Certification Bodies (LHLN), including IFANCA, AHF, ISA, HTO, and ISWA. These agreements allow Indonesian authorities to recognize certifications issued in the US, provided they meet BPJPH’s rigorous assessment standards.
Non-halal products remain exempt from certification but must clearly display "non-halal" information. This enforcement is part of the government's broader "Mandatory Halal October 2026" roadmap, ensuring consumer protection and regulatory sovereignty over all imported goods.
