Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia plans to connect 2,500 currently unserved villages to reliable internet access by 2026 to expand equal access to education, public services, and economic opportunities across the country, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs announced on Wednesday (10/12/2025).
“We recognize that connectivity gaps still exist, which is why these regions will be our priority in 2026,” she said during the Declaration of Indonesia’s Digital Roadmap event in South Jakarta, as reported by antaranews.com.
The minister said that the program builds on major digital infrastructure projects completed between 2023 and 2024, which have already improved connectivity in Papua, Gorontalo, East Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi.
Authorities said the next phase focuses on maximizing the economic impact of existing networks while ensuring that communities can fully benefit from digital services.
The initiative forms part of Indonesia’s broader digital strategy, which includes expanding nationwide connectivity, strengthening the digital economy, and creating a safer online environment.
