Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia called for urgent reforms within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to ensure the organization remains relevant in today’s global landscape.

The appeal came from Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir at the 19th NAM Coordinating Bureau Ministerial Meeting (PTM) in Kampala, Uganda, 15 and 16 on October 2025.

“NAM must reform itself. We need to reduce redundancy, focus on commonalities, simplify our processes, and adopt better working methods that deliver tangible results,” he said said, as reported by antaranews.com.

He lamented the movement’s stagnation, citing declining member support for Palestine as a critical concern.

Arrmanatha emphasized three priorities: reforming NAM’s internal structure, driving United Nations and multilateral reform, and strengthening South-South cooperation. He encouraged members to optimize the NAM Center in Jakarta to foster development partnerships, asserting that revitalizing multilateralism and solidarity among developing nations is key for NAM’s credibility and effectiveness.

The PTM adopted a final document outlining strategic priorities including peace and security, development, climate change, and poverty alleviation.
