Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s fishery products have met Saudi Arabia’s food safety standards and are declared safe for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) confirmed.
The certification opens broader export opportunities to the kingdom.
“The Quality Control Agency has conducted inspections on sanitation, hygiene, and food safety practices across the fish supply chain from production to post-harvest,” said Ishartini, the Head of the Fishery Quality and Safety Control Agency, on Saturday (4/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
So far, 63 Indonesian fish processing units have received export approval numbers from Saudi authorities, up from 58 last year. The ministry collaborates with the Food and Drugs Agency (BPOM), the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, and Saudi’s Hajj and Umrah authorities to expand this figure.
The export growth also targets the massive demand from around 221,000 Hajj pilgrims and 675,000 Umrah pilgrims annually, with an estimated need of 25.8 million food boxes each year. The cooperation is formalized through a mutual recognition MoU with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).
