inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka instructed the Agriculture Ministry to immediately complete their works in the sugar industry sector as the government targets the achievement of self-sufficient sugar in 2027.
“We want to finish this work as we want the sugar production to be as successful as rice. This is our commitment as food self-sufficiency is the aim of President Prabowo,” says VP Gibran in his statement on Monday (6/23/2025).
The Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman says that currently his party is accelerating the sugar industry by improving the system as a whole.
“This way, we can further improve the system and bring benefits to our farmers,” says Minister Andi.
Currently the sugar production in Indonesia is enough as in the first quarter of 2025, the sugar production as a whole has reached around 50 percent.
To reach the target, the government will turn sugarcane as the priority commodity that will be planted in fields.
“In the future, we want this field to be focused on planting sugarcane and hopefully this will accelerate our effort in achieving self-sufficient sugar,” concludes Minister Agus.
