Inp.polri.go.id - Majalengka. An Indonesian woman is currently detained in Ethiopia on drug-related charges, prompting efforts from the Majalengka administration to secure legal assistance.
The Department of Manpower, Cooperatives, and MSMEs (DK2UKM) of Majalengka has requested intervention from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Manpower, and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) since October 2024.
“The government seeks to ensure Linda’s rights are protected,” said DK2UKM Head Arif Daryana on Wednesday (5/3/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The woman, identified as Linda Yuliana (28), allegedly traveled on a tourist visa, raising concerns about an unofficial departure as a migrant worker. Her family claims she was deceived into transporting narcotics disguised as chocolates and soap.
Her trial has been postponed to 12 March 2025, and she previously faced six hearings without legal representation. If convicted, she could receive a 25-year sentence and a $500,000 fine.
According to Majalengka Migrant Forum Chair Ida Neni Wahyuni, Linda remains in Kaliti Prison, suffering from poor health and inadequate living conditions, with limited access to food and clothing.
