inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Los Angeles reminded Indonesian citizens affected by forest and land fires in Los Angeles, California, to only evacuate to official places.

"We suggest that the affected Indonesians go to official shelters because the facilities are definitely better. Through the official shelters, their ID will be automatically registered and can get the latest information," said Consul for Information and Socio-Culture of the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles Afina Burhanuddin as quoted by Antara, on Wednesday (1/15/2025).

Evacuation sites set up by the local government in collaboration with the American Red Cross are open to all affected residents regardless of nationality.

Consul Afina also confirmed that a number of Indonesian citizens who were forced to flee due to the impact of the forest and land fires have accessed evacuation centers provided by the local government.

So far, 163 Indonesian citizens, both diaspora and students, have been affected by the Los Angeles forest fires, he said, adding that the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles has also prepared evacuation sites and logistical supplies for those in need.

In addition to government evacuation sites, there are also Indonesian citizens who have taken refuge in the homes of relatives and friends, hotels, or are looking for new temporary housing, he said.

She also said that a number of Indonesian citizens who suffered material losses but did not have insurance were directed to access the services of the US Federal Emergency Management Service (FEMA) to get assistance.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles continues to urge Indonesian citizens to always follow the directions of the authorities considering that a number of locations are still designated as forest and land fire emergency zones by the local government.
