Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The return of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency and tensions within the European Union further highlight the importance of Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy, according to Presidential Communication Office (PCO) spokesperson Philips Vermonte.
“This is the moment when our non-aligned foreign policy becomes even more relevant. We no longer need to depend on superpowers,” he said on Thursday (6/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Phillips emphasized that Indonesia’s participation in BRICS should not be seen as an anti-West stance, nor should it conflict with its engagement in the OECD.
“The two organizations serve different purposes,” he said.
Philips also noted that Indonesia is expanding cooperation with developing nations at an unprecedented level. He cited President Prabowo Subianto’s recent participation in the G20 and APEC summits as proof of emerging economies' growing influence in shaping global agendas.
