Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Industry reported that 1,236 manufacturing companies began first-time production in 2026, absorbing 218,892 workers as of January 15, highlighting the resilience of the national manufacturing sector amid global economic uncertainty.

“Manufacturing continues to grow above five percent and remains the main engine of Indonesia’s economic growth,” Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Sunday (18/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

The newly operating firms were projects that completed construction in 2025 and entered full operation this year, supported by non-oil and gas manufacturing investment worth Rp551.88 trillion. The ministry targets non-oil and gas manufacturing GDP growth of 5.51 percent in 2026.

Minister Agus said new production capacity is crucial to maintaining industrial supply, strengthening the manufacturing structure, and expanding employment. The ministry is accelerating industrialization, Industry 4.0 transformation, and upstream-to-downstream integration.

Domestic demand is projected to account for 80 percent of growth, supported by import substitution, local content policies, and stronger SME integration.
