Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo offered a direct apology to the family of an online motorcycle taxi driver who was killed after being struck by a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle during unrest near the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Thursday.
He met the victim’s relatives at the Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta in the early hours of Friday (29/8/2025).
“We extend our condolences and also apologize to the family of the deceased for this tragedy,” Chief Listyo told reporters after meeting the victim’s father, according to antaranews.com.
He said the police are assisting with funeral arrangements and responding to the family’s requests, adding that he also coordinated with local community leaders.
The incident occurred when a protest outside the DPR complex turned violent, leading to clashes in which the online motorbike taxi driver was fatally struck.
The INP’s internal affairs (Propam) confirmed that seven Brimob officers from the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police are under investigation for their involvement in the incident.
