The Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko confirmed on Saturday (30/3/2024) the deployment of both military and police officers to the site of an explosion at the Ammunition Depot of the Jakarta Jaya Military Command in Ciangsana, Bogor Regency, West Java.
He emphasized the joint presence of military and police forces, including community policing officers and military district officers, supported by the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police and Jakarta Military Command.
“The efforts aim to manage the aftermath of the explosion and ensure the safety of the surrounding communities, firefighters, and medical services,” Chief Trunoyudo said, as reported by antaranews.com.
He referred to the ongoing presence of Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto at the scene, overseeing security measures.
The explosion, which occurred around 6.30 pm local time, engulfed the ammunition depot in flames, prompting urgent evacuation efforts for nearby residents.
Brigadier General Kristomei Sianturi, the Head of the Army Information Department, reported challenges in reaching the fire site, prompting immediate evacuation as a precautionary measure.
While there have been no reported casualties, authorities have positioned numerous ambulances nearby as a precautionary measure.
Residents in the vicinity have been relocated to safer areas to mitigate potential further explosions.
Major General Mohamad Hasan, the Commander of the Jaya Military Regional Command, confirmed no casualties from the explosion. However, ongoing difficulties in accessing the fire site within the ammunition depot complex have hindered immediate response efforts.
